One of Germany’s largest TV networks, ZDF, has put out a conspiracy documentary on who was really behind the attacks of September 11.  The ZDF website asks readers to vote, and the poll question is literally “Who pulled the strings?”

 

The choices are:

 

-Osama Bin Laden

-The “arms lobby”

-George W. Bush

-U.S. Authorities

-I don’t know

In Europe, there's a strange weakness or psychological need for conspiracy theories about the United States and George W. Bush. Some say it’s just the European left. Some insist that it has spread to the mainstream. Either way, I have always found amusing the assumption in Europe that Americans are stupid and naïve. And yet, I’ve seen how many college educated European “intellectuals” will swallow whatever silliness is delivered to them in a high brow manner on TV news shows.  The same could be said about many American “intellectuals.”
