British Archbishop: Muslim Sharia Law “Unavoidable”

In a statement that could reverberate though the anti-Islamist blogosphere like a gunshot (or a car bomb), Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams said today that the adoption of Islamic Sharia law in Britain is “unavoidable.” Williams told the BBC that the UK has to "face up to the fact" that some of its citizens do not relate to the British legal system.
“(Archbishop Williams) says that Muslims could choose to have marital disputes or financial matters dealt with in a Sharia court. He added Muslims should not have to choose between ‘the stark alternatives of cultural loyalty or state loyalty’. “ -ThisisLondon.co.uk
I’ve read a lot of silliness from the European Left elites about Islam, but this is truly amazing. And this is an example of why there is a far right backlash coming to Great Britain and to some countries on the continent of Europe. Capitulation to Islam, or accommodation to something as undemocratic and barbaric as Sharia, is completely out of step with the British and European public.
Williams is not a government official, but he wields political influence, even if only through the way he’s presented in the BBC and Left media. And he’s only expressing the same kind of relativistic view of democracy vis-à-vis Sharia that has been prevalent among leftists in governments across Europe.
Of course, Williams wrapped it up in nice ribbon by describing what he envisioned as a new form of democratic Sharia. Yeah, right.
