British Leader to Meet Dalai Lama at Archbishop's Residence

LONDON - British Prime Minister Gordon Brown will meet with the Dalai Lama next week in London.
But Brown's spokesman Michael Ellam says the meeting will be held at Lambeth Palace -- the home of the Archbishop of Canterbury -- rather than at Brown's official residence No. 10 Downing Street.
Ellam denied the choice was aimed at appeasing China's government. He told reporters the decision was made because Brown will greet the Dalai Lama as a religious, rather than political, figure.
Brown's predecessor, Tony Blair, hosted the Dalai Lama at Downing Street and President Bush has met with the exiled Tibetan Buddhist leader at the White House.
