CWNews.com–-BLACKSBURG, Va. - With hands clasped, hundreds of students prayed a short distance away from where so many lost their lives.
"This is not going to be the end. The violence will not be the final word because Lord right now you're raising up people who believe Christ is the solution," one student said.
Earlier in the week, students gathered in the middle of the campus on Drill Field to pray. They gathered in one large group and also broke into smaller ones with the goal of bringing healing to their campus.
"As a Christ follower, I have a heart for my campus, I want to just lift up my campus in prayer," Andrew Churchill, a Virginia Tech student said. "I just want to gather with other Christ followers of every ethnicity and race and proclaim that Jesus Christ is Lord over our campus."
"You understand her pain better than anyone else could, because you lost your own Son,” another student prayed. “You suffered for us."
Tt was a time to receive comfort, a haven in the middle of anguish.
"One of my friends from high school actually died in Norris Hall,” Tony Lipari, a Va. Tech student said. “And another friend in West AJ died in that incident. In fact I was talking to him Wednesday and Thursday."
"Just pray for the campus, for those who are mourning right now and just really listen up to the Lord," Blair Pippin, campus minister, said.
The prayer vigil encompassed a lot of issues. People who gathered here prayed for the victims, the administration, and the family members of the gunman."
"Protect our brother's family right now. Lord, give them strength to recover," students prayed.
The Rev. Franklin Graham also attended the prayer vigil.
“My prayer is for the Christians that God will use you to be oil on this great wound, an oil of healing on this campus," Graham said.
"Christians all over the world are getting together just to pray,” Cesir Iusejo, also a Va. Tech student, told CBN News. “Pray and just stand with these people."
These students are standing in the gap for community who needs all the support they can get.
