Jewish Immigrants Come Home to the Holy Land

By Chris Mitchell
Middle East Correspondent

CBN.comJERUSALEM Despite the onslaught of terrorist attacks in Israel since the fall of 2000, a new wave of Jewish immigrants is arriving in the Holy Land. About 400 arrived Tuesday. They left the comfort of North America for life in a troubled land, and these Jews got some help from an unexpected source.

The nearly 400 immigrants marked the largest number of North Americans to arrive at one time in 25 years. Nefesh B'Nefesh, which means "soul to soul" offered one-time grants to help settle the new families and individuals.

The International Fellowship of Christians and Jews funded this group of immigrants. According to its founder, Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein, many American Christians donated the funds for their return because they believe in the state of Israel and they wanted to bless it.

Many of the immigrants felt like it was a homecoming. Daniel Wightman from Los Angeles said, "Weve been waiting all our lives to find our home, and we realized this is it."

Hundreds of Israelis greeted the new immigrants. The goal is to bring at least four planeloads a year to Israel and vastly increase the number of North American Jews who immigrate to the Holy Land.

Many Christians see the return of the Jews to Israel in these days as the fulfillment of biblical prophecy. The return of Jews from North America represents for many a historic moment and dramatic step forward in that fulfillment.
