A Day Full of Beauty

CBN.comPretty dresses, fancy hair styles, manicures, and make-up -- the things most teenage girls count on for a special occasion.

But what happens when a young girl is not your typical high school graduate?  Graduation from high school in Ukraine is one special occasion when girls want to look their best.  With lavish ball gowns and cascading curls, the Ukrainian graduation day tends to resemble an American high school prom more than a graduation.

Nadiya is a 16-year-old orphan, graduating from the orphanage school where she has spent the majority of her life.  So who helps Nadiya pick out her dress? Who does her hair and make-up?  Who helps her create memories on such an important day? Thanks to the staff of the Operation Blessing Orphan Training center in Kiev, Nadiya and eight other graduating girls from the Radomeshal orphanage experienced a graduation day to remember -- a day full of beauty!

On the day of graduation, women from the OB staff in Kiev came to the orphanage armed with hair dryers, curling irons, make-up and nail polish determined to give these girls the styles of their dreams.  For the hours leading up the graduation the young graduates enjoyed laughing and talking while being transformed into elegant princesses.

When the graduation ceremony began, the nine female graduates slowly entered into the hall, walking with a new air of confidence.

“Thank you so much for coming,” said Nadiya, as she hugged the woman who had done her hair. “I really like how I look. Thank you so much for your help.”

In addition to helping with the hair and make-up, the OB staff also brought a special gift for each graduate -- a large duffle bag filled with gifts and clothes to help them as they begin life beyond the orphanage.

All of the graduating orphans from Radomeshal have attended the Life Skills and Computer courses that the OB Kiev has been teaching for the last year.  With this training and the relationships developed, Operation Blessing prays these young men and women are now better equipped to leave the orphanage and begin independent life.
